10 Most Popular Android Apps for 2011

The coolest thing about the Android is that the app scene is open source. This means anyone can make any app they want, they don’t need anyone’s approval like with the iPhone. The result is less quality control, but greater range of bizarre, inventive and experimental apps, so while the most popular Android apps often overlap with iPhone, there are a few out there that are exclusive to the Droid operating system.

Angry Birds

This one’s kind of obvious, of course. Everyone is playing Angry Birds. It’s one of those rare games like Mario or Tetris that gets the whole world interested whether or not they game.

Adobe Reader

Maybe not the most exciting app, but one of the most useful, and hence, most popular. You need a PDF reader on your phone, and Adobe Reader works just fine.

Skype

Skype’s popularity on the Droid is kind of ironic. It’s an internet phone system that works well on your internet-enabled phone! In any event, Skype’s phone usages plus the social networking aspect is a lot of fun to play with.

Amazon Kindle

Kindle puts the world of literature at your fingertips, with thousands of free books and nearly a million total. The easy-to-use interface on the droid version makes reading in a digital format easy and fun.

TV.Com

What’s a better sign that we’re in the future than watching TV on a device the size of a pocketwatch? Well, flying cars, but we don’t have those yet. TV.com will have to do in the meantime.

Pandora Radio

The boring thing about playlists is that you have already heard all that music. Pandora lives up to its name sake and offers you a world of new music to experience every day for the rest of your life. And if you ever forget a song name while listening to a tune? Try Shazam. It doesn’t forget tunes.

StylusNotes

This fun program is like a digital memo-pad. Use your stylus to take notes. Why use this instead of, well, a memopad? Uh… because this is more fun! Plus, doodling on your phone is a great way to pass the time.

SwiftKey Keyboard

Here’s a cool app: SwiftKey scans your typing history to make text predictions. Basically, it learns to type like you. Spooky? It only gets more accurate the more you use it.

Space War

Space War is a classic arcade shooter. Addictive, fast paced and fun. Need we say more?

Fruit Ninja

Fruit Ninja, the ultimate game in…chopping fruit. Okay it sounds like a lame game but it is seriously addicting. Very addicting. With the swipe of a finger, chop the fruits! And if you in for the next level for the THD version.
